Allergy is an abnormal reaction of our immune system, which due to certain reasons takes a substance that does not bother most other people for something harmful and dangerous for our body.
Instead of fighting bacteria and viruses, the immune system reacts food, mold spores, pet dander, dust mites, pollen or medicines. Its aggressive reaction involves release of numerous immune bodies including immunoglobin E (IgE), a chemical aimed at destroying potentially harmful objects. An IgE immune body is intended for a certain substance, or allergen. In people subject to allergies, this reaction at a 'desease' is accompanied by annoying and sometimes even dangerous symptoms. The reason is that the immune system starts to produce specific molecules like leukotrienes, histamines, cytokines.
Allergic reactions do not depend on gender, age, race or any other social factor - anybody can be affected by allergy. As a rule, children are more prone to allergies as their immune system is underdeveloped yet. But even the absence of allergic reactions during childhood does not prevent them from occurring on later life stages. Another possible scenario is allergy recurrence after a number of quiet years. Sometimes, allergic manifestations continue to increase gradually over the time.
Although scientists do not have concrete answers about genetic mechanisms of allergies, it is a proven fact that they are typical for family lines. Among other factors that may provoke an allergic reaction, researches name stress, perfumes, hormones, and smoking.
Those subject to allergies have to live with constant symptoms of short breath, allergic rhinitis, sneezing. To get rid of undesirable effects, to make life easier and to take the situation under proper control, be sure to consult an allergist.
